Why HTML and not ASCII?
The SEC’s current position on the use of HTML is as follows: The EDGAR system accepts both ASCII and HTML documents as official filings. Currently, the commission does not require the use of HTML. However, HTML is expected to become mandatory for future filings, so filers are encouraged to use it and gain experience if they have not already done so. Note: The SEC does not use the standard version of HTML. There are many HTML codes that the SEC does not allow in EDGAR documents; therefore, it is not possible to simply save a document as HTML from your word processing software and file this document with EDGAR.
